Our hidden orange Christmas puddings are now on sale by mail order or can be ordered for collection from our shop before Christmas (1.2Kg,£15 collected or £25 incl. post and packing). These are made to an improved recipe and sold out quickly last year as a result of demand for Heston Blumenthal's version in Waitrose. They contain a candied orange which imparts a wonderful citrus flavour to the fruit which is soaked in a mixture of stout, barley wine and rum. These puddings just have to be steamed for one hour before they are ready to enjoy on the day. To order your pudding, telephone 01638 662418 9am - 5pm Mon to Fri.

Powters Wins Good Housekeeping Taste Test

In an expert taste test conducted by GOOD HOUSEKEEPING in the November 2011 issue, Powters Newmarket Sausage was a clear winner, beating competition from other premium brands as well as supermarket premium own label sausages from Waitrose and M&S. In the blind tasting which was conducted by a specialist team, the judges acclaimed Powters as 'Good-looking sausages with a lovely balance of well-seasoned flavours. Great meaty texture, with no gristly or large fatty lumps. A worthy winner.'

  News Update

Having finished calving and with 100% calving success, we now have 13 calves from 13 calvings - unlucky for some! The cows and calves were turned out as they calved, once the calves were strong enough. The bull was turned out with the herd once more at the end of May and the final group of cows and calves joined him and the rest of the herd on 1st June. Grass has been slow to grow with the lack of rainfall this year and our first cut silage only yielded half the amount of last year. This means that we are relying on the second cut to produce enough to make up the shortfall for next winter. The herd are happily grazing now and this has meant a welcome respite from the routine of feeding them and strawing the yards. We drilled about 9 acres of new grass about a month ago in early May, with rain forecast after a very dry spring. This didn't amount to much but since then we have had about 20mm and the new grass and clover are beginning to germinate at last.

Powters will joined a number of local and artisan producers again to enable people to sample some of our new range, including the new LOW FAT sausage, the REAL ALE sausage made with Greene King's own Abbot Ale and the region's Celebrated Newmarket Sausage. The event was an even bigger success than before with over 5000 visitors over the weekend, many of whom took home some of the sausages on offer.

  18 to 81 - The Powters demographic!

You don't have to be an adult to enjoy a Powters Sausage, but some of our flavours such as Real Ale and Spicy Spanish are not for the faint-hearted! The 1881 sausage is based on the original Victorian butchers sausage made at that time and we called it that because it was the year that my great grandfather became a butcher and sausage maker in Newmarket.
The recipe combines premium hand-boned free renge British pork with our secret Powters seasoning. Natural flavours with no articicial colours or flavours.
