  Well Spotted!

 
  Our latest batch of traditional breed pigs, Gloucester Oldspots (with two Saddleback cross pigs)are making themselves at home in the woodlands at Newhouse Farm. These are 15 weeks old and will spend approximately two further months before reaching pork weight.

  Free Range Rare Breed Pork - naturally.

 
  Tristan introduced his rare breed piglets to their new woodland home this weekend - we are expecting some very tasty pork in the spring! These are 9 week old weaners and are Berkshire crossed with Oxford Sandy and Black breed. They will have the run of our woodland once they are used to the new location. They will grow naturally and take a little longer to reach pork weight than intensive pigs would, but will be all the more flavoursome and healthy!

  We're still the best!

 
  The new November issue of Good Housekeeping finds Powters Newmarket Sausage one of Britain's best bangers. In a blind tasting by a team of specialists which tested supermarket and leading brands that use solely British pork they were amongst the very best. The judges commented that they were 'Good looking and browned nicely. Flavoursome with a thick skin and juicy, soft meat.' Say no more!

  Low Fat Sausage Diet Success

 
  Congratulations to Janet and Adrian of Solihull who between them lost 5 stone whilst still enjoying our Low Fat Sausages!
They have had difficulty finding supplies when not visiting East Anglia and so as a thankyou for their support and their inspiring poetry (sample below) we sent them a free case.

'...And I will continue with my great ambition,
To get Powters low fat in every kitchen,
For me and my man, on our continuing diet
Its a winner for sure and everyone should try it
Between us we've lost 5 stone and a half
And its been quite gruelling, not much of a laugh
But your low fat sausage has made it a pleasure
So don't stop making it, its a recipe to treasure
And I'll write and I'll shout that us living down here
Should have Powters in sackfuls for all to share
And maybe this small voice will hit the right ear

  Selling Hotdogs? -Its Rocket Science!

 
  We are part of an exciting new venture starting this year. It’s a new concession on Newmarket’s two racecourses selling POWTERS famous Newmarket Sausage hotdogs with our own special hand made relishes. The 50’s style ‘Retro Rocket’ has been specially designed for us and is based on the iconic American Airstream caravan. We will also be offering three of our most popular speciality sausage varieties, all made to award winning recipes by Powters: Cider & Sage, Real Ale with locally brewed Greene King Abbot Ale and Spicy Spanish.
The Qipco Guineas weekend proved a fitting launch pad for the ‘Rocket’ sausage unit with crowds flocking to enjoy the racing in glorious spring sunshine and also to sample the new upmarket Powters hotdogs. One satisfied punter (all the way from Bristol) declared them ‘The poshest hotdogs he had ever tasted’!
The new catering venture will also be appearing at the Suffolk Show and is being operated by ‘Blackboard Catering Ltd.’ – a subsidiary of Powters.

  Another Award for Powters!

 
  We have just picked up an award for Brand Identity, in the Pig & Poultry Marketing Awards held in Westminster and presented by Neil Parish MP. We are delighted, both to receive this recognition from the grass roots of our industry (sponsored by feed suppliers BOCM PAULS)and also with the increased profile nationally of the POWTERS brand.

  100% pork, 100% British!

 
  We would like to reassure customers in the light of the current situation concerning some processed meat products that our sausages have always only contained PORK. The pork we use is 100% British, free range from high welfare British farms and is supplied direct to us by BQAP approved, audited suppliers. We only use carcase meat from primal cuts boned by hand. This means that we simply use the best cuts and no by-products.

  Newmarket Sausage Wins EU Protection

 
  The long awaited news that The Newmarket Sausage has become the 50th UK regional speciality product to gain protected status. The 'PGI' or 'Protected Geographical Indication' means our famous sausage can only be made in a defined area to strict specifications. This puts the Newmarket Sausage on a par with the Cornish Pasty, Melton Mowbray pork pie and Cumberland Sausage, as well as within the wider EU with Parma Ham and Champagne. Grant Powter of Powters said:'I am delighted that this regional food product has now gained the protection it deserves by virtue of the quality and reputation which have been traditionally attributed to the making of sausages in Newmarket for over 160 years.'

  Powters has teamed up with local wine importer Nethergate Wines to offer reasonably priced wines which are a little different to those found in the supermarkets. Based on wines which are enjoyed in local and national restaurants, we have enlisted the help of Nethergate proprietor Charles Eaton to select affordable yet characterful examples of familiar types of wine.

  Powters Goes National in Co-operative Foodstores

 
  From March 2012 Powters Newmarket Sausage has been available from over 130 selected Co-operative Food Stores all over the country. For the first time many of our customers can now find their favourite sausage a lot nearer to home if they live outside our regional heartland of east Anglia. From Callington in Cornwall to Tulse Hill, Kent and from Southampton to Seahouses, Northumberland the Newmarket Sausage has made its mark and is enjoying strong demand. We now have outlets in some of the main areas of London, such as Fulham and Chelsea, Putney, Battersea and Dulwich. You can now get our bangers in Bristol, Leeds and Manchester too! Please get in touch for detailed information on the location of your nearest store. Local availability in the region will also improve from 9th May this year with a further 20 local Co-operative Food outlets stocking the sausage once more around Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds.

  Powters Wins Good Housekeeping Taste Test

 
  In an expert taste test conducted by GOOD HOUSEKEEPING in the November 2011 issue, Powters Newmarket Sausage was a clear winner, beating competition from other premium brands as well as supermarket premium own label sausages from Waitrose and M&S. In the blind tasting which was conducted by a specialist team, the judges acclaimed Powters as 'Good-looking sausages with a lovely balance of well-seasoned flavours. Great meaty texture, with no gristly or large fatty lumps. A worthy winner.'

  Design Success for Powters

 
  We have won a terrific endorsement of our new pack design in the recent DRUM MARKETING AWARDS 2011 for the outstanding and innovative new pack design which we launched in September last year. The design and marketing strategy was entered for the awards by Ware Anthony Rust of Cambridge. Pictured with the new design are Grant Powter and Alison Meadows, director of WAR, Cambridge.

  Strictly Judged Sausages!

 
  Powters Celebrated Newmarket Sausage was recently a national finalist in the hotly contested branded category of the Britain's Star Sausage competition judged in British Sausage Week (1st-7th November). Amongst the panel of industry experts was Strictly Come Dancing's Craig Revel Horwood who presented Powters with a personal message of congratulations and a certificate.

  18 to 81 - The Powters demographic!

 
  You don't have to be an adult to enjoy a Powters Sausage, but some of our flavours such as Real Ale and Spicy Spanish are not for the faint-hearted! The 1881 sausage is based on the original Victorian butchers sausage made at that time and we called it that because it was the year that my great grandfather became a butcher and sausage maker in Newmarket.
The recipe combines premium hand-boned free renge British pork with our secret Powters seasoning. Natural flavours with no articicial colours or flavours.
